Islah Ibrahim - It is indeed a privilege and an honour for me to be included in this competition. The competition holds a special place in my heart as compared to other competitions, because this one is for a cause. If in any small way we have made one person open their heart to the plight of the Amazon Frontlines, then our composition, no matter how insignificant, has contributed to the cause.

As composers, our participation is unique. We appreciate and applaud those that have contributed their monies, time, blood, sweat, and tears, and by no means am I belittling any of that. Au contraire, perhaps speaking for myself, I may not be able to contribute in that way. So, in our own way, in the way that we know we can, we composers contribute our music.

A good friend of mine once directed a TV Commercial called, “Whose Earth?”. This earth belongs to all of us. We breathe the same air, and drink the same waters. We are all citizens of this planet. As distant as Amazon is from Malaysia, it is still like a pebble in the shoe. The whole body feels the pain. I humbly hope that I have contributed in my small way towards awareness of the plight of the Amazon Frontlines
